Obituary for Alvin Nathaniel "Butch" Coston

Alvin Nathaniel Coston, son of the late James and Bessie Coston, was born on October 30, 1957 in Nassawadox, Virginia. He peacefully departed this Earth on Monday morning, March 20, 2023.

“Butch,” as he was so lovingly referred to, was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. In later years, he relocated to Dorchester, Massachusetts, where he and his brother, Irvin ran a successful upholstery company. While in Dorchester, Butch was also employed at Arrow Automotive for many years. He enjoyed many hobbies to include playing the guitar and organ, as well as playing billiards.

Alvin was loved by so many people and was often described as being jolly and easy-going. He loved spending time with his family and friends. They always said his smile lit up every room he entered and his kind heart positively reflected upon everyone he met.

Alvin leaves the following loved ones to cherish his memory: two children, Javon Coston of Dorchester, MA and Sonyel Fernandez of Boston, MA; sixteen grandchildren, Janahasia, Brandon, Javon, Jr., Janiyia, Jaunique, Jamari, Aamori, Javonah, Jahlyah, Suri, Anari, Jahzell, Aleyah, Elijah, Xaviar, and Dream; five sisters, Doris (Horace) Nock of Keller, VA, Barbara Singh of Brooklyn, NY, Pamela Savage of Melfa, VA, Janice (Armour) Treherne of Craddockville, VA, and Deborah Coston of Exmore, VA; three special friends, Donna Fernandez, Wanda Nunes, and David Alther; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hilda “Frances” Strand, Thelma Savage, and Mary Ann McDonald; brothers, Julius Coston, Conway Coston, William “Billy” Coston, Irvin Coston, and James “Buddy” Coston.

Alvin will surely be missed by the countless people whose lives he influenced; his impact on them will keep him in their memories forever.

Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
