Amanda, affectionately known as “Manlee,” was a graduate from Northampton County Public Schools. She was employed by Gregg Harriet Shirt Factory, where she served as supervisor and a dedicated employee for over forty years. After the closing of Gregg Harriet Shirt Factory, she was also employed by Lloyd’s Drug Store, Rite Aide, and Shore Stop where she ended her employment after fifteen years.
Amanda accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and a frequent visitor of New Mission United Methodist Church. The things she loved most were shopping, sewing, dancing, taking care of others in need, and making others laugh. Around the holidays she truly enjoyed cooking and the gatherings of all of her family coming together. Amanda’s love and joy for life was infectious and a blessing to everyone she came in contact with.
Amanda was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all. She always looked forward to traveling across the bay to visit her loved ones. Her favorite stores were Dillard’s, Macy’s, and Nordstrom’s; and her favorite restaurants were P.F. Chang’s and Chick-Fil-A. At P.F. Chang’s she enjoyed the kid’s chicken fried rice meal and from Chick-Fil-A she enjoyed the six-count nugget kid’s meal, but it had to be well done and with no salt on the fries.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Anthony Nottingham of Machipongo, VA, Mavon Nottingham of Chesapeake, VA, Sandra Chandler of Treherneville, VA, and Kelley (Jaymorle) Ingram of Newport News, VA; one brother, George Nottingham of Reedtown, VA; two sisters-in-law, Fannie Nottingham of Melfa, VA and Maggie Nottingham of Machipongo, VA; twelve grandchildren in which six she was instrumental in their rearing, Adrianna, George, Jr., Rakeem, Jayla, Jay, and Ja’Nay; seven great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; special nieces that provided care for her, Deloris, Stella, Rose, Sabrina, Lillian, and Tangier; two grandpups, Buddy and Coco Chanel; devoted friends, Mary Belle, Ernestine Jones, and Barbara Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
