Obituary for Audrey Mae Young (Fisher)

Audrey Mae Fisher Young, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother slipped peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at her residence in Parksley, Virginia. She was born on March 29, 1947 to the late William L. Fisher and Malinda M. Shrieves Fisher.

Audrey received her education in the public schools of Accomack County and was a 1965 graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. She was employed for thirty-eight years and three months as a secretary at NASA. She was extremely proud of her dedicated service to NASA. Audrey was a member of the Wallops Black History Club and supported organizing its Annual Scholarship Banquet.

On June 14, 1968, Audrey and Benjamin F. Young were joined in holy matrimony. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Tonya. Audrey and Benjamin shared eight lovely years of marriage until his passing.

At an early age, Audrey was baptized at First Baptist Church in Mappsville, Virginia and became a lifelong member. She was a member of the Senior Choir and was instrumental in the development of the Food Basket Ministry. She was also civic-minded and encouraged members in the church and the community to exercise their right to vote.

Audrey had a pure heart of gold, and was always willing to help anyone in need. She loved to bless people with her delectable treats and became famous for her delicious sweet potato pies and sweet potato biscuits. Baking brought her so much joy.

Audrey’s greatest joy was her family, her girls meant the world to her and she meant the world to them as well. Each of them shared something special and unique with her. Her presence will be greatly missed but she left memories that will last forever.

In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin F. Young; and her brothers, William L. Fisher, Jr., James Fisher, Edward Shrieves, and Harry L. Shrieves, who was a cousin that was raised as a brother.

Left to cherish loving memories are her loving daughter, Tonya N. Young; granddaughters, Brianna Young and Amaya Young; great-granddaughter, Aubree Young; special friend, David McClamy; adopted son, Tommy Brown; sister-in-law, Veronica (William) Southerland; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lovingly and sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
