Obituary for Barbara Ann "Bobann" Wright (Beckett)

Barbara Ann Beckett Wright was born on March 20, 1952 in Exmore, Virginia to the late Booker Murphy and Corine Taylor. She was blessed to have been reared by Charlie and Corine Beckett. She departed this life on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Barbara, affectionately known as “Bobann,” was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. After giving birth to her first born, she gained employment at Perdue Foods, LLC. There, she was affectionately called “Little Barbara.” She dedicated twenty-five years of service at Perdue before changing careers. Barbara became a dietary aide at a local nursing home. This position exemplified her kind and giving spirit.

On May 7, 2005, Barbara married her friend and soulmate, Jerry Wright, Sr. They were blessed with sixteen years of love and friendship.

At an early age, Barbara accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Painter, Virginia.

Barbara enjoyed baking and watching soap operas in her spare time.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Gaskins and brothers-in-law, Melvin Nock, William Wright, Wesley Hamilton, Albert Bibbins, and Charles Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, Jerry Wright, Sr.; sons, Anthony (Mashonda) Beckett and Troy Hill; stepsons, Jerry Wright, Jr. and Deon Walker; stepdaughters, Ashley Bishop, Latoya Wright, and Jennifer Walker; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Ramos, Phyllis Smith, and Emma Nock; brothers, Booker (Juanita) Murphy and Bruce (Betty) Murphy; sisters-in-law, Mary Hamilton, Mona Bibbins, and Bessie Shrieves; brothers-in-law, Apostle Lenwood (Pastor Diane) Wright and Dexter (Montrose) Jackson; aunts, Sarah Walker and Dorothy Scott; uncle, William “Randy” Gaskins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Lovingly and sorrowfully submitted,
