Obituary for Bettie Cleo Dix (Davis)
Betty Cleo Davis Dix was born on June 5, 1934, in Onancock, Virginia. She was the youngest of seven children of the late Ivory “Ike” and Fannie Davis. Surrounded by her family, Betty gained her angel wings in the early morning of December 7, 2020 at the age of 86.
Betty was a lifelong member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church, where she served as a communion stewardess.
Betty attended Accomack County Public Schools from which she graduated. She was employed for many years at both Holly Farms and Perdue. After retiring from Perdue, Betty later was employed by Roses, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Betty.” She took pride in her work there and many days, you would find her stocking shelves or just having friendly conversations with customers.
Betty married the late Alonzo “Bud” Dix, Jr. and this union was blessed with three children, Wayne, Pamela, and Tracey. She was a caring and devoted mother who doted on her kids and grandchildren and always provided a stable home for each of them. A woman of simple pleasures, Betty loved and wanted nothing more in life than spending time with loved ones. She also enjoyed shopping, listening to gospel music, Tyler Perry movies, and most of all making her homemade yeast rolls on Sundays. Her nephews would always ask, “Did Aunt Betty make rolls today?”
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, Ira “Buddy,” Claude, Eugene, and Percy Davis; two sisters, Kathleen Jackson and Winona Summerville; and two grandchildren, Brandon Dix and Shagonee “Kea” Dix.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory: son, Wayne (Sharon) Dix, Sr.; two daughters, Pamela Dix and Tracey (Ronnie) Ridley; grandchildren Crystal Dix, Wayne (Rykea) Dix, Jr., Tikeisha (Carroll) Bridgett, Jerrell (Mia) Williams, Breon Dix, Fatai Dix, and Khalil Dix; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Those left are blessed to cherish the memory of her life.
A loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister; Betty was known for putting others’ needs before her own. Her generous spirit, bit of sass, stylish/classy dress, and gentle demeanor touched and inspired all who knew her.
