Obituary for Betty Lynn Johnson (Byrd)

Betty Lynn Byrd Johnson, beloved daughter of the late Paige Randolph Riley, Sr. and Madeline Sara Byrd, was called home on January 16, 2022 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born in Parksley, Virginia on May 25, 1955.

Betty received her education in the Accomack County Public Schools. She was employed at several establishments to include, Perdue and Eastern Shore Seafood Company, where she was known for her fast crab picking skills.

Betty, affectionately known as “Ma Betty,” was the “Hood Mother” of Daugherty. It warmed her heart to open her door to anyone in need, whether it was food, shelter, or advice. Love radiated from her and could be felt by anyone who came in contact with her.

In her leisure, Betty loved to cook, play cards, and play Candy Crush. She also enjoyed singing Gospels with her son, Anthony, while cleaning the house.

There are so many things that one could say about Betty. She was fun, kind, heart-warming, and God fearing. She was a mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. I know we will miss her, but if you put love in your heart, that’s where she’ll be…right there inside you.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by husband, Johnny Johnson; sister, Sara Jane Crosby; brother, James E. Byrd; and stepfather, James H. Byrd.

Betty leaves to cherish her priceless memories: her three sons, Troy Lamont Duffy, Robert Lee Byrd, and Anthony Zandre’ Duffy; five grandchildren, Yolonda Coston, Roneaka Byrd, Roshonda Byrd, Keandre Pettit, and Tynasha Duffy; three great-grandchildren; special sister, Mary Baynard; special daughter, Tysha White; special son, Warren Fosque, III; siblings, Isabelle Riley, Sha’ron Finney, Bridget Manuel, Robert K. Byrd, Brenda Cupid, Paige Riley, Jr., Orlando Riley, Fred Riley, Avis Mussio, and Joyce Johnson; aunts, Dorothy Taylor White and Bernice Riley; uncle, Amos Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Lovingly submitted,
The Family
