Obituary for Carletta Ellen Greenlee

Carletta Ellen Greenlee was born December 21, 1959 to Claude E. McCain and the late Margaret Boone-McCain. God called her home on March 13, 2021 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Carletta was a native of Washington, DC and a graduate of Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, Maryland. In 1995, she relocated to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She was a dedicated employee at the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore in their Food Service department for eleven years. Carletta was very loving. Every niece, nephew, each friend of her children became her children. She was affectionately referred to as “Ma” by many. Her home was your home. She loved being around her family whether it was a family reunion, cookout, baby shower, etc.; she just loved being around people.

Carletta enjoyed eating crabs, no matter the season; if she could find them she would eat them. She also loved to ride, she did not care where you were going, she was ready to go. Her greatest pleasure was the time she spent with her grandchildren. She loved them more than anything and they loved her just as deeply.

Carletta was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Greenlee; her mother, Margaret “Marty” Boone-McCain; sisters, Marty McCain and Elizabeth McCain; brother, Richard McCain; and nephews, Kenneth “Kenny Bear” McCain, Jesse Jordan, and Jevon Burl.

She leaves to cherish her many memories: her children, Shawnta McCain and David “Tony” McCain; grandchildren, Da’Syni McCain, Draiden McCain, Nae’Lani McCain, Dreston McCain, and Alayah Ellis; father, Claude E. McCain; siblings, Carlette (William) Beckett, Cynthia Jordan, Claude “Mack” McCain, Jr. (Tracey), Shelia (Ernest) Washington, Kenneth McCain, William McCain, and John (Tracey) McCain; nieces and nephews, Natalie Ames, Wayne Hall, Patricia Lee, Marvin Lee, Michael Hall, Tracey Johnson, Kristol Jordan, Kimberly Jordan, Jessica Jordan, Meliah Legion, Kendall Legion, Tracey Legion, Brian McCain, Kayla McCain, Keno McCain, Kenard McCain, Kenan McCain, Kenay McCain, Dominique McCain, Monique McCain, Marcus McCain, Jackie Olds, Riquita McCain, Richard McCain, John McCain, Jr., Yasmine McCain, and Arianna McCain; sister-in-law, Angie Burl; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
