Obituary for Catherine Hill Edmonds
Catherine Hill Edmonds, beloved daughter of the late James Ernest Hill and Margie Williams Hill, was born on September 7, 1935 in Cashville, Virginia. She quietly slipped away from this earthly life on December 13, 2020 at her residence in Onancock, Virginia.
Catherine was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools and was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. Upon graduation, she joined the workforce, first assisting her husband with his business ventures. Then she became a nurse’s assistant and lastly as a personal caregiver.
In 1970, Catherine married the love of her life, John Herman Edmonds. They shared forty years of marriage until his demise in 2010.
Catherine was a faithful and dedicated member of Glorious Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. in Onancock, Virginia. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord and her church. Catherine was a member of the Pastor’s Aide, Church Building Fund committee, Missionary, and was also the church secretary. Of all the ministries she served, Catherine will be famously remembered for her service in the church’s kitchen. She prepared delicious and heart-warming meals every Thursday and Friday for countless years. It brought her great joy to prepare hearty dishes for the community and also to raise funds to continue the upbuilding of God’s Kingdom.
In her leisure, Catherine enjoyed fellowshipping with her family and friends. Annually, she would join her family on their family vacation aboard a cruise line.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Hill and two brothers, Robert Hill and Roland Hill.
Catherine leaves to cherish her fond memories her adopted daughter, Barbara Collins of Pocomoke City, MD; two adopted grandchildren, Bryon A. Collins of San Diego, CA and Kim L. Collins of Salisbury, MD; four sisters, Margie Hill of Parkslely, VA, Bertha Bratten of Melfa, VA, Rosemary Hill of Onancock, VA, and Elizabeth Mumford of Pocomoke City, MD; two brothers, Bishop R. W. Hill of Newport News, VA and Wilbert Hill of NC; three stepdaughters, Eva Mae Marks of Atlanta, GA, Joan Wilson of Pungoteague, VA, and C. Reneta Major of Painter, VA; one stepson, Lawrence “Lonnie” Bailey of Fredericksburg, VA; four step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
I pray that you're all settled now inside your heavenly home
God must have needed one more Angel and that's why you are gone
I will never forget the talks that you and I have had
The advice that you've given me when you knew I was being bad
You always had a smile and a song in your heart
And cooking those church dinners you have surely left your mark
We won't forget your cooking but we most remember your love
And the Praise you gave Jesus as he sat up above
Looking down on your walk as you traveled through this life
You were a mother figure to many and an outstanding wife
You go ahead and rest now for you have run Your long race
