Obituary for Charlie Cornelius "Wowo or Woochie" White

Charlie Cornelius White, born February 20, 1954, departed this life to eternal life on Monday, October 4, 2021 at his residence in Withams, Virginia. He was the son of the late Charlie “Buddy” Abbott and Deloris “Sis” White Washington. Charlie was affectionately known as “Wo-Wo”, or “Woochie.”

At an early age, he confessed his beliefs and joined First Baptist Church, where he was baptized under the leadership of Rev. DeHaven Vaughn. Charlie attended the public schools of Accomack County and was a 1973 graduate of Parksley High School. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army. Charlie also worked at Holly Farms (now Tyson Foods), Perdue, and his most recent employment was at Bel Art in Pocomoke City, Maryland.

In his mid 20’s, Charlie met the love of his life, the late Barbara Rue-White. The two were together for over thirty-seven years and during that period were joined in holy matrimony. Charlie and Barbara were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Chela and Tiffany Rue. Some of the greatest memories made with his daughters were: taking his girls for rides in his van, and going to see Christmas lights during Christmas, grilling, watching Court TV with Chela, and playing the organ and harmonica with Tiffany.

Wo-Wo’s hobbies were playing spades and bid whist, where he would bid a blind 10 without looking at his hand or asking his partner. He enjoyed riding out with his ride or die partner R.P., going fishing, hunting, but most of all he loved firing up his grill even with snow on the ground. Charlie also enjoyed riding the lawnmower in a hurricane and hanging out with his “Withams Circle” friends and talking plenty junk to them.

In May 2015, Charlie became ill and was diagnosed with lung cancer. He showed great strength as he took radiation and chemotherapy at the same time. Charlie’s famous line while fighting cancer was “Kick it in the butt!” He was in remission until 2020 and was able to participate in the Cancer Treatment Center Bell Ringing Ceremony twice. He always stayed positive and had faith that God was in control and has the last say. On October 04, 2021, the Lord determined that Charlie’s earthly work was done and rang His bell and called Charlie to his heavenly home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Rue-White; parents, Charlie Abbott and Deloris White-Washington; brothers, Eugene White, Danny White, and Ronnie Washington; father and mother-in-law, Kenzy and Lois Rue; as well as sister-in-law, Earnestine (Russell) Tull; and brother-in-law, Ervin Rue.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Chela and Tiffany Rue; siblings, Rita (Relford) Matthews, Stephen (Darlene) Byrd, Edward (Shirley) White, Valestine White Northam, and Yvonne Norville; step-brothers, Gregory (Karen) Washington, Calvin (Lisa) Washington, Tony (Tasha) Washington, and Devon (Stella) Washington; step-sister, Diane Washington; uncle, Nelson “Butchie” White; brothers-in-law, Warren Rue, Sewell (Lorrine) Rue, and Lawrence (Lorrie) Rue; sisters-in-law, Marva (Rossano) Rue and Joanne (Russell Fisher) Rue; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Lovingly submitted,
The Family
