Obituary for Clyde "Byrd" Bassett Jr.
Clyde Bassett, Jr., affectionately known as “Byrd,” departed this life on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at home with his family.
Byrd was born in Onancock, Virginia to the late Clyde and Dorothy Bassett and raised by his god mom the late Carrie Butler. He attended the Accomack County Public Schools. After high school, Byrd joined the United States Army.
In later years, he returned to the Shore and fell in love with his wife, Peggy; in that union they shared a daughter, Andrea that was very dear to his heart. Byrd was employed at Perdue Farms and retired from there.
Byrd had a humble and gentle soul. He loved spending time with his family, taking trips to Philadelphia, and riding to Ocean City with his grandsons, Jordan and Joshua. He also loved to watch his favorite sports, golf and baseball.
Byrd was preceded in death by his three brothers, Windell, Wilber, and William and two sisters, Ethel and Mary Bassett.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Peggy; daughter, Andrea; son, Michael; his stepson, Tony; grandsons, Jordan and Joshua; sisters, Cleo (Jimmy) Hickman of Bloxom, VA and Rosa Bassett of Philadelphia, PA; three sisters-in-law, Liz Washington of Philadelphia, PA, Bessie Parker of Onancock, VA, and Elsie Pearson of TX; brother-in-law, Jerry (Nannie) Stewart of Parksley, VA; special friend, Loretta Johnson; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
