Obituary for David Theodore "Goatball" Walker

David Theodore Walker, affectionately known as “Goatball,” beloved son of the late James and Odessa Walker, was born on July 10, 1947 in Burgaw, North Carolina. He departed this life on August 30, 2021 at Shore Health and Rehab Center in Parksley, Virginia with his niece, Lauketta Reid by his side.

Goatball attended the public schools of Accomack County. At an early age, he joined the workforce as a wood cutter along side of his brother-in-law, K. C. Kellam. He later found work on the farm with William Beckett, his dear friend.
David was not a stranger to anyone and had a great sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh. His greatest love was his family.

On July 14, 2019, David accepted Christ as his savior at Adundant Life Faith Center in Tasley, Virginia, under the leadership of sister, Pastor Hattie Reid. He faithfully served on the Usher board until his health would no longer allow him to do so. He will be fondly remembered by everyone in the church for his favorite saying, “When God gets ready, I am ready.”

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Walker; daughter, Marshall Reid; two sisters, Shirley (Williams) Knox and Janice (Clarence) Custis; two nieces, Virgie Walker Davis and Shirley Walker; and three nephews, Dwayne Walker, Leotoles Reid, and Ontavious Mapp.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his two daughters, Karen Teagle of Seaford, DE and Janet Harmon of Virginia Beach, VA; one son, James D. Smith of Salisbury, MD; eleven grandchildren; five sisters, Annie Lowther, Hazel (K.C.) Kellam, both of Wachapreague, VA, Hattie (Charles) Reid of Painter, VA, Linder (George) Mason of Accomac, VA, and Doretha James of Montgomery, GA; two brothers, Henry (Naomi) Walker of Philadelphia, PA and Ernest Walker of Accomac, VA; his devoted nurses, William Battle (nephew), Jaquito Reid (grandchild), Janekis Reid (grandchild), Lauketta Reid (niece), Kashanda Sample, and Dianna Giddens; two special friends, Marcus Corbin and Bishop Elroy Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Lovingly submitted,
The Family
