Obituary for Dixie Lee Handy
Dixie Lee Handy, affectionately known as "Dick," "Carrie," and most of all "Dixie Lee," beloved daughter of the late Clarence and Dixie Handy Mason, was born May 31, 1949 in Mappsville, Virginia. She departed this life December 1, 2020 in Parksley, Virginia.
“Dixie” attended the public schools of Accomack County. In her younger years she worked in various industries from field work to poultry processing. “Dixie” was no stranger to working hard for her family.
Family, friends, and even strangers felt embraced when they came to “Dixie Lee's” house. She was a staple in the Rolling Acres community. Her house was the place to be on any given day and her kitchen table was always open for a card game or a hot meal at any given time. She enjoyed watching her "Stories" and catching up with the latest gossip on the telephone. If you were running out to the store, she would probably tell you to bring her a Pepsi and a loaf of bread back.
“Dixie Lee” shared a special love for her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is now and will forever be loved and missed by all who crossed her path.
In addition to her parents, “Dixie” was preceded in death by her brothers, Chester Handy, William Mason, Lee Roy Handy, and Arthur Handy and special friend, Franklin Savage.
Left to cherish special memories are two children, Mary Handy of Melfa, VA and Clarence (Mulinda) Handy of Parksley, VA; five grandchildren, Dixie (Bobby) Handy of Virginia Beach, VA, Taniqwa (Daquan) Clark of Salisbury, MD, Angel Handy of Painter, VA, Brittany Handy of Accomac, VA, and Clarence Handy, Jr. of Painter, VA; five great-grandchildren, Genesis, Mi'Angel, Cherish, Bobby, and Brayce; two sisters, Ineta McLaughlin of Parksley, VA and Alice (Mitchel) Townsend of Bloxom, VA; five brothers, Rudolph (Jackie) Handy of Umatilla, FL, Roger Mason of Parksley, VA, Willie Mason of Princess Anne, MD, Tommy (Avon) Mason of Parksley, VA, and Tony (Beatrice) Mason of Nelsonia, VA. Also left to cherish fond memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, the Rolling Acres Family, and friends.
