Obituary for Dorietha Elizabeth "Reet" Lilliston (Jones)

Dorietha Elizabeth Jones Lilliston, born January 5, 1953 to the late William and Elizabeth Jones, went home to her heavenly father on July 21, 2022.

Dorietha was educated in the Accomack County Public School System and graduated from Central High School. She furthered her education at ESCC and studied early childhood education. She worked for the Accomack County Public Schools as a special education assistant for 23 years until her health failed.

Dorietha served as Stewardess at Burton’s Independent Methodist Church and loved the Lord. She endured many illnesses through her life, but she continued to press on. Her favorite songs were Ride out Your Storm and All in His Plan. Although she did not get out much, she found her ministry in making phone calls to friends and family. She was known for making numerous calls for her annual States of GOD rally. She was a faithful listener to Kelly in the morning and Sunday Morning Gospel with Anetia Finney and took joy in calling in birthday and anniversary wishes.

Dorietha found joy in baking and taking care of her grandchildren and was able to take joy in her great-grandchildren. It goes without saying how extremely proud she was of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

Dorietha leaves behind her loving husband of 50 years, James Lee Lilliston of Melfa, VA; son, James Anthony Lilliston (Tysheia) of Melfa, VA; daughter, Michelle Lilliston-Sabatino (David, Jr.) of Melfa, VA; grandchildren, Quenyetta Evans (Charles), La’Sheia Chandler (Antwon), Rendell Chandler, Jr. (Kiana), Jazmyne Lilliston, Monikka Sabatino, James A. Lilliston, Jr., and Dajah Sabatino; great-grandchildren, Ja’kirah, Are’na, Ja’qura, Na’sya, Charles, IV, Khari, and A’zara; brothers, William Jones (Bethel) and Larry Jones (Sandra); sisters, Rosalie Showell and Helen Johnson (Travis); sisters-in-law, Elder Diane Jones, Julia Lilliston (Gilbert), and Marie Fletcher; very special friends to the family, First Lady Joanne James, Phyllis Mears, Delores Hall, Margaret Drummond, James Hall, and Lolita Hall, to name a few but countless others; a host of neices, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her brother, Deacon Johnnie Jones, Sr.; brothers-in-law, Roy, George, and Milton Lilliston; and sisters-in-law, Thelma Skinner and Lizzie Lilliston.

Dorietha was a woman of unwavering faith, fought the good fight and finished her course.
