Dorothy Rebecca Joynes was born on May 10, 1933 to the late William Henry Walter and Thelma Duncan Walter in Painter “Lil’ Boston,” Virginia. She was the eldest of ten children.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by three brothers, William Walter, David Walter, and Nathanial Walter.
Dorothy is survived by her four children, Timothy N. Joynes, Samuel L. (Marion) Joynes, Cynthia D. (Paul) Mordecai, and James H. (Mattie) Joynes; seven grandchildren, Timothy N. Joynes, Tomica (Nolan) Madden, LaTasha R. (Alex) Beeks, Antwine L. (Monique) Joynes, Andrew H. Salmond, Mark A. (Christina) Salmond, and Iletha Joynes; four brothers, George Walter, James Walter, Ralph Walter, and Vincent Walter; two sisters, Thelma Jackman and Iva Wilson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
