Dorothy Mae Johnson Poulson is the fourth child of six born to the late Bernie Johnson and Clara Pitts Johnson Marshall. She was born on February 6, 1939, and her battle with pancreatic cancer ended on February 19, 2022.

Known as “Dot Mae,” she was educated in Accomack County Public Schools. She joined Dea’s Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and later joined New Beginnings United Methodist Church at their merger. Dot Mae was a faithful Usher and a Trustee at Dea’s for many years. She held various laborer positions and retired from Tyson Foods, later working at the Chincoteague Bay Fieldstation. She loved watching soap operas, shopping, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Dot Mae loved wearing dressy church suits with matching hats and purses.

She birthed her first son, Timothy, and later married Hoover Poulson and together they had one son, Hoover Junior Poulson. Dot Mae was a quiet and fun person that was adored.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoover Poulson; two brothers, Calvin and Winfield, Sr.; two sisters, Pauline and Gertrude; and she delivered an angel daughter.
