Obituary for Elsie Mae Davis (Ames)
Elsie Mae Ames Davis, was born on May 16, 1939 to the late Edward and Annie Ames in Pungoteague, Virginia. She departed this life at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital on November 26, 2020.
Elsie received her education in the Accomack County Public Schools. She was joined in Holy Matrimony with the late James V. Davis at an early age. Elsie joined Sneads United Methodist Church where she served on the Usher board and The Women’s Christian Society until her health began to fail.
Elsie was affectionally known and loved by many. She enjoyed family gatherings, doing her puzzle books, and watching her great grands play outside. She loved going to the Wachapreague Carnival to eat Funnel Cakes, play bingo, eat fries, and enjoy the entertainment. Every morning she loved listening to WESR while drinking her coffee. There was nothing like watching her GSN Game Shows while chewing her favorite Juicy Fruit gum. Elsie loved to wear her jewelry; she felt it completed her outfits. Everyday Elsie looked forward to spending the day with her sister, Gladys and getting her daily calls from her sisters, Mable and Katherine, good friend, Inez Nock, and niece, Jane Matthews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; six brothers; one daughter; one granddaughter; one son-in-law; and one step-son.
Elsie leaves to cherish her fond memories: two daughters, Francesta Watts of Franktown, VA and Carolyn (David) Baines of Melfa, VA; three sons, Robert Davis, Ronnie Davis, both of Melfa, VA and James Davis of Accomac, VA; one son-in-law, James Miles of Onancock, VA; three sisters, Gladys Peele of Melfa, VA, Mable Holbrook of Painter, VA, and Katherine Scott of Philadelphia, PA; one sister-in-law, Lillian Knight of Norfolk, VA; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; two adopted daughters, Joyce (Boyd) White and Sharon Wise; two adopted grandchildren, Danielle Teague and Michael Singleton; one adopted great-grandchild; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
