Obituary for Gloria Mae "Baby Mae" Justice

Gloria Mae Justice was born on November 17, 1963, in Parksley, Virginia. “Babe Mae,” as she was affectionately known, was the second child born to George “Hodges” and Diane Fisher Justice. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia after a lengthy illness.

Babe Mae was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. She held various jobs until she started dialysis sixteen years ago. At an early age, she dedicated her life to Christ. Babe Mae was quick to tell everyone how good God was to her and how He brought her through the lowest point in her life when she was fighting her addictions. She celebrated over sixteen years of sobriety before her passing.

Babe Mae loved to laugh and make others laugh. Her laughter was enough to crack you up. She was gentle-spirited and easy going, but she was quick to remind you “Don’t get it twisted. Middlin Meal was my momma and I ain’t no pushover!” Babe Mae was extremely loyal to her family, friends, and precious football team – The Pittsburgh Steelers. All she talked about was Steeler Nation. Babe Mae loved hanging out with her family whether it was recalling old times, singing, dancing, eating, or talking junk while playing spades.

In 1986, she married Larry Byrd and from this union came the first apple of her eye, Sasha Veronica, whom she loved and spoiled rotten. Knowing what a brat Sasha was, Babe Mae held her in her lap the entire time she visited so no one would smack those little legs.

Babe Mae leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Sasha Veronica Byrd Duffy; three grandchildren whom she loved beyond measure, Kynia “Nia Nia” Reid, Kerwin ”Stink” Harmon, Jr., and Kawon “Wan Wan” Harmon; three brothers, Kenneth “Bo” Fisher of Montross, CA, Larry ”Pete” (Sonya) Justice of Greenbush, VA and Vernon ”Lee” (Sharone) Justice of Princess Anne, MD; two sisters, Rhonda Bagwell (Emanuel Thomas) of Millsboro, DE and Debbie Shrieves of Pungoteague, VA; two aunts, Brenda (Jimmy) Harmanson of Parksley, VA and Barbara Palmer of Atlanta, GA; five nieces, Janasia Clayton, Tanasia Justice, Marquita Shrieves, Marquisha Palmer, and Madison Palmer; seven nephews, Nazarene Blake, Marquis Downing, Antwine Downing, Demetriece Downing, Kevin James, Shacarius Shrieves, and Marcus Shrieves; ten great nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, Babe Mae was predeceased by her brother, Elroy Justice; and nephews, Dynell Downing, Marquis Knox, and Emanuel Thomas, II.
