Harrison James Savage, the oldest of seven children born to the late James and Audrey Savage, was born in Accomack County, Virginia on April 13, 1948. He departed this life on August 5, 2022 at 9:25 AM at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware after a lingering illness.
He was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. Upon graduation, he earned an Associate’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from Norfolk State College.
Harrison was a Lead Maintenance Mechanic at Perdue Farms in Accomac, Virginia for more than twenty-five years. He was a dedicated employee and received a silver award and many bonuses for his dedication. Harrison was part owner and assistant to his mother, Audrey Savage’s travel agency, Jehovah Travel Tours. Upon his retirement from Perdue, he ventured into entrepreneurship. He organized and operated several businesses and loved to take the financial risks, knowing he had God’s favor.
On April 5, 1969, he was joined in holy matrimony to Deborah Williams. Harrison loved her dearly and she was always by his side. Their union was blessed with fifty-three years of love.
Harrison gave his life to Christ at an early age while attending Jerusalem Baptist Church in Temperanceville, Virginia. In later years, he rededicated his life to Christ and joined St. John’s United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Virginia. He was a faithful member, who was always willing to serve. He was the President of the Trustee Ministry, member of the Male Chorus, and Parking Lot Ministry. He also served faithfully on the Food Bank Ministry until his health began to fail.
“Electric Arms,” as he was affectionately known, enjoyed racing and buying cars. He had a passion for rebuilding motors on cars and lawn mowers to make them run faster. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing and football.
Harrison leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-three years, Deborah Marie Savage of Atlantic, VA; three sons, Derrick Williams of Virginia Beach, VA, Harrison James Savage, Jr. of Richmond, VA, and Garrett Dickerson of Wattsville, VA; one adopted daughter, Amiyah Brenae Watson of Pocomoke, MD; four grandsons; one uncle, Leonard Harmon of Atlantic, VA; sisters, Evelena Carter of Virginia Beach, VA, Joyce (Stanley) Mason, Diane Williams, Leona (Arnold) Parker, all of Chesapeake, VA, Darlene Savage of Glen Allen, VA, and Audrey (Nathaniel) Perdue of Graham, NC; two sisters-in-law, Nancy (Lowell) Davis of Assawoman, VA and Alice (William) Laws of Temperanceville, VA; two brothers-in-law, Tommy Watson of Atlantic, VA and Darnell (Janice) Watson of Columbia, SC; great-aunt-in-law, Effie Mae Harmon; and a host of great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
