Obituary for James Percell "Pete or J.D." Davis

James Percell Davis, affectionately called “Pete” or “J.D.,” was born in Melfa, Virginia on June 1, 1960 to the late James and Elsie Davis. He departed this life on January 27, 2023 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

Pete was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools, where he played football and was a graduate of Central High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army National Guard.

At an early age, Pete received Christ at Snead’s Memorial United Methodist Church.

Pete worked in the maintenance department at Perdue Farms for over forty years. He was a quiet man that stayed to himself. He loved his side hustle of cutting grass and being a handyman when he was needed. Pete had his set days of the week that he would make his rounds to check on his family and friends, whether it was just to take out the trash, deliver the newspaper, or just to have a good conversation.

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his two sisters, a brother, a niece, and two brothers-in-law.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Gavin Johnson of Horntown, VA; two sisters, Francesta Watts of Hare Valley, VA and Lisa (David) Baines of Melfa, VA; two brothers, Ronnie Davis and Robert Davis, both of Melfa, VA; one sister-in-law, Lisa Predeoux of Parksley, VA; four aunts, Gladys Peele of Melfa, VA, Mable Holbrook of Suffolk, VA, Irene Scott of Philadelphia, PA, and Lillian (Garfield) Knight of Norfolk, VA; six nieces; four nephews; four great-nieces; ten great-nephews; one great, great-niece; one great, great-nephew; five special cousins, Anthony Austin, Jane Matthews, Mary Austin, Patsy Dicks, and Annette Boone; best friend, Bobby Richardson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lovingly submitted,
The Family
