James Miles, Jr., affectionately called “Moochie,” was born on February 3, 1953 in Onancock, Virginia to the late James and Gladys Miles. He departed this life on September 4, 2022 at his sister’s home in Onancock, surrounded by his family. Moochie attended the Accomack County Public Schools.
On July 27, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Ann Davis. They shared forty-three years of marriage before her passing on July 26, 2018.
Moochie had a love for people, which led to him receiving many engagements to drive for Shore Limousine Service. He also delivered seafood for Darryl Lilliston’s Seafood. Moochie loved to drive and explore new areas. He would also tell you how to get to a destination with his own directions.
At an early age, Moochie joined St. John’s Baptist Church in Onancock, Virginia, where he remained a faithful servant. He was also an associate member of Snead’s Memorial United Methodist Church, where his wife was a faithful member. Moochie fellowshiped with these congregations and several other churches in the community.
Moochie had many hobbies. He played baseball and softball for various teams to include, Tasley Tigers, Savageville Red Sox, Sluggers, King & Queens, and Bad Boys. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars. His greatest love was shooting pool, where he earned the title of “Legend at his best.” Whenever he was asked who was the man on the pool table, he would tell you he was the man.
In addition to his parents, Moochie was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Miles; grandmother, Hattie Davis; sister, Leatha Miles; father-in-law, James Davis; mother-in-law, Elsie Davis; niece, Shaletta Watts; and nephew, James Drummond.
Left to cherish his memories are: his daughter, Shelby Cobb; son, Amir Davis; grandson, Liam Saul; sisters, Barbara Davis, Teresa (Keith) Kellam, and JoAnn (Sherman) Williams; brother, Perry (Frances) Bailey; sisters-in-law, Francesta Watts and Lisa (David) Baines; brothers-in-law, James Davis, Ronnie Davis, and Robert Davis; aunts, Helen Davis, Gladys Peele, Mable Holbrook, and Irene Scott; special nieces, Tamika, Tyvolia, Tykisha, Ciera, Tiara, Tashianna, Brittany, and Sherie; special nephews, Reicko, Derrick, Darryl, Daveonta, and Elroy; special friends, George Crippen, Kerwin Northan, Avery Fleming, and Gardner Fosque; and a host of other relatives and friends.
