Obituary for James Thomas "Jimmy" Rowe Jr.

James Thomas Rowe, Jr. was born in Washington, DC on August 27, 1938 to the late James Thomas Rowe, Sr. and Margaret Davis. At the age of two, he moved to Augusta, Georgia. In his early years, he was raised by his Aunt Ruth in Bronx, New York.

James was joined in holy matrimony to his first wife Mary, and their union was blessed with Wanda. He enlisted in the United States Army. James was stationed in Germany for several years before being honorably discharged. He eventually returned to New York City.

Upon his return to New York, James owned a barbershop and was a licensed barber. He mastered everything he put his hands on, to include carpentry, cooking, artistry, and gardening. His love for collecting cars like Mark V and droptop Mustangs motivated him to become a mechanic. He had the original big box car phone and TV inside his car.

James loved music especially oldies and gospel. “Jimmy,” as he was affectionately known, also specialized in looking dapper; boy he could dress. He custom-made clothes for himself and his daughter.

James was later joined in holy matrimony to Renee who preceded him in death. This union was blessed with Sharnee and many others were fostered. He was known as “Daddy” to them. James took up permanent residence in the town of Onley on the Eastern Shore of Virginia after many years of owning a summer home there.

Jimmy went on to have a lifelong partnership with Janet, with whom he had a son, Jermel and granddaughter, Journee. They parted ways, but in his last years of life, she took on the role of his caregiver until his last day.

James leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Wanda, Carol, Sharnee, Jermel, Rob, Jeff, and Dwayne; grandchildren, Journee, Amunet, Nayshawn, Tiffany, Robin, Alysha, Makayla, Tatiana, Jamaila, Malik, Shaquille, Domonique, Ryan-Wesley, Winston-Reed, Rondy-Ashton, Jasmeen, Kyle, Brandon, and Cordelia; great-grandchildren, Bry’saan, Zy’nae, Sky’li, Ermias, Malik, Nevaeh, Londyn, and Bryson; and a host of siblings, other relatives, and friends. He will forever be remembered as “Jimmy,” “Jim,” “Dad,” “Daddy,” “Granddad,” “Pop-Pop,” or whomever he was to you.

Lovingly submitted,
The Family
