Obituary for James Mitchell "Bat Mike" Tull Sr.

James Mitchell Tull, Sr. was born on October 31, 1952 to the late Hollis and Nettie Tull in Accomack County, Virginia. He departed this life on April 8, 2022 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.

“Mitchell,” as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Accomack County and was a graduate of Atlantic High School. Upon graduation, he entered the workforce and worked in several industries to include Campbell Soup and Golden Pride. His last employment was with Perdue Farms, he dedicated forty years of service before his retirement.

At an early age, “Poppy” played baseball and softball. He also loved fishing, cutting grass, and riding the “Boulevard” with his puppy, Pikachu. Mitchell would light up a room and have everyone falling out in laughter when he would joke on them. He would laugh so hard until he cried. If you wanted to keep him quiet, just ask him for some money. He would say, “Honey, I’m so broke I can’t even pay attention.” We would all fall out laughing.

“Tightman” was a true Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved the Cowboys, you couldn’t say anything bad about “Them Boys.” That would be sure to start an argument. When he left a family gathering, he would have somebody fix a plate for him and Marsha for later.

In addition to his parents, “Mitch” was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ja’Niah Monee Tull; two brothers, Calvin Tull, Sr. and Hollis Tull, Jr.; one sister, Billie Jean Johnson; and one brother-in-law, James Johnson.

Left to cherish his fond memories, his wife of thirty-six years, Marsha Tull; children, Tamala Tull of Wattsville, VA, Nakisha Strand of Germantown, MD, Dontray (Ashley) Tull of Wake, VA, Dwayne (Shamekia) Tull, and James M. (Kinya) Tull, Jr., both of Wattsville, VA; nineteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one godson, Malaci Madre of Beaufort, NC; one foster daughter, Latanya Walker of Virginia Beach, VA; sisters, Terry Seymour of Norfolk, VA, Nettie Mae (James) Laws of Palymra, NJ, and Vanessa T. (Theodore) Drummond of Atlantic, VA; two uncles; three aunts; four brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; special friends, Angela Upshur and Ronald Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
