Obituary for Janice Marie Ballard

Janice Marie Ballard was born on February 16, 1971 to Donald Ballard, Sr. and Brenda Diane Shrieves Sample in Salisbury, Maryland. She was blessed with a bonus father, Benny T. Sample, Sr., who raised her as his own child. Janice left her earthly home to rest in her heavenly home on January 17, 2022 at her residence in Melfa, Virginia.

Janice was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. Upon graduation, she entered the nursing field. Janice was a Certified Nursing Assistant for a brief time before she became a mother. When she had her first child, her focus became being the best mother she could be, so she left the workforce to devote her time to caring for her children. This was the greatest reward for Janice. She loved to provide for her children and many others who were in need.

Janice was a member of Faith Community Church under the leadership of Bishop Ronnie T. Northam, Jr. She truly enjoyed worshipping God and telling everyone about His goodness. In her leisure, Janice loved to listen to Gospel music, cook, clean, and play Bingo. She would often engage in long conversations with her family, always giving them uplifting and encouraging words and speaking life into them.

Janice was preceded in death by her mother, Brenda Diane Shrieves Sample; her grandmothers, Alice Bishop, Flossie Shrieves, and Sally Ann Rowland; and brother, Clarence Clayton.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her children, She’Ray Ballard, Kierra Ballard, Raychielle Ballard, RayNiya Fitchett, Ray O’vonte Fitchett, and Jaraveon Fitchett; grandchildren, Renee’sia Ballard, Jer’miya Ballard, Martrell Walker, Jr., and Jesse Gardner, Jr.; father, Donald Ballard, Sr.; bonus dad, Benny T. Sample, Sr.; siblings, April Walker (Marty), Taishawnia Perkins (Angelo), Benny T. Sample, Jr. (Yuka), DeMichael Burton, Laquanet Burton, Lynett Ballard, Kisha Crippen, Trudy Bratten, Shanon Ballard, Donald Ballard, Jr., Rodney Ballard, Donyell Ballard, and Brandon Ballard; significant other, Ray Thomas Fitchett, Sr.; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, godchildren; cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Lovingly submitted,
