Joan Deborah Bailey Mason, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, relative, and friend, gained her wings on July 21, 2022. She was a cherished daughter of the late Leroy Wilmer Bailey, Sr. and Violet Sample Bailey, and was born on October 18, 1958 in Melfa, Virginia.
At an early age, Joan attended Accomack County Public Schools and graduated in 1976 from Central High School in Painter, Virginia.
Joan was employed throughout her life, however, her most fulfilling job was her “Fresh Start” Cleaning and Auto detailing business. She was proud of client satisfaction and reviews after she finished the job.
Joan was a devoted mother to Jamesha Ballard Hairston and LaQuinnton Harmon, as well a devoted grandmother.
She enjoyed being outdoors, working in the yard, planting flowers, cooking, and trying new recipes. Joan had an extensive wardrobe with four closets, she was known for exquisite fashion and style.
Joan was predeceased by her parents; sister, Barbara Elaine Bailey Harmon; close cousin, Nino Bailey; and grandson, Sharif Hairston. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: husband, Robert Mason; daughter, Jamesha Ballard Hairston; son, LaQuinnton Harmon; granddaughter, C’Jia Mayfield; four sisters, Vanessa Bailey of Parksley, VA, Glynis Bailey Savage of Melfa, VA, Yvonne Bailey Nedab (husband, Dalbert) of Wachapreague, VA, and Phyllis King of Baltimore, MD; three brothers, Leroy Bailey, Jr. (wife, Sandra) of Bear, DE, Prentice Bailey (wife, Schawaria) of Temple Hills, MD, and Dennis Perkins of Norfolk, VA; one brother-in-law, Tommy L. Harmon, Sr. of Parksley, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Joan’s smile lit up a room and her laugh was contagious. She will be forever remembered for the unconditional love she showed her family.
Lovingly and sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
