John Edward Clayton was born on March 4, 1959 to Carlton Clayton and Georgia Clayton Scarborough in Gargatha, Virginia. On Wednesday, February 1, 2022, God dispatched an angel from heaven to take his child home.
John, affectionately known as “Belt,” was educated in the public schools in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He loved his family and dear friends. Belt was a funny person and was always fun to be around. He was full of joy and very outspoken. Wherever he went, he was well known.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his eight children, Tieast Tull, Dora (Orlando) Hill, Jonathan Ellison, Jr., John Clayton, Jr., Keyiana Clayton, Shy Jenkins, Jowan Clayton, and Cody Bowden; seventeen grandchildren, Chaniye Lewis, Craivon Lewis, Aleana Gilmore, JaMyia Baylor, Jonathan Ellison, Janiah Ellison, Jazzarioh Ellison, Jamesha Ellison, JaMyra Onley, Makhi Meilhammer, Angel Kibler, Taevon Dapont, Kemiyah Clayton, Darrick Santiago, Jr., Aubree Lemore, Tayden Mills, and JaNaz Clayton; ten brothers, Elwood (Gail) Handy, Carlton Clayton, Jr., Randolph (Brenda) Clayton, Preston Clayton, Marvin Clayton, Marshall Clayton, Tyrone Clayton, Norman Clayton, Alan (Maliesa) Clayton, and Randolph Clayton; five sisters, Virgie Gorham, Aiddie Handy, Georgia May Clayton, Mary Ann (Dennis) Davis, and Oletha Clayton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
