Obituary for Josephine Rosetta "Jo" Bagwell

Josephine Rosetta Bagwell, was born on May 27, 1932 to the late Burley and Hortense Bagwell. She peacefully transitioned into the arms of God on April 1, 2021 at the home of her niece, Ora, who was her caregiver.

Josephine was affectionately called ”Jo” by her family and friends. She was educated in the Accomack County Public School system. “Jo” worked at Holly Farms, now Tyson’s, for over twenty years.

“Jo” enjoyed cooking and watching the soaps; however, on Wednesdays you could find her in the market getting groceries with her sister, “Lizzie,” who preceded her in death five years ago. They were always together, where you saw one, you saw the other. They would occasionally travel across the Bay to visit their sister, Clara and niece, Beverly.

At an early age, “Jo” joined Gaskins Chapel A.M.E. Church, Savageville, Virginia. She was a member in the choir, served on the Missionary and Lay Society. In 2018, ”Jo” was Gaskins Chapel A.M.E. Church’s honoree at the Virginia Conference Red Flare Luncheon.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: sister, Clara Miller of Norfolk, VA; nieces, Ora Satchell (who was like a daughter) of Onancock, VA and Beverly Miller of Norfolk, VA; great-nephew, Brandon Drummond (Deon Turlington and her daughter, Nyasia) of Hampton, VA; great-niece, Muriel Bradbury of Norfolk, VA; great, great-nieces, Skylar Drummond of Hampton, VA and Isabella Bradbury of Norfolk, VA; great, great-nephews, Kanize and Ky’Zerion Williams, both of Onancock, VA; special cousin, Vernice Willis of Onancock, VA; adopted nieces, Marlene Thomas, Deborah Caldwell, Tracy Clarke, and Christine Lewis; and a host of cousins and friends.
