Obituary for Joyce Celestina "Joycie" White (Addison)

Joyce Celestina Addison White was born on February 20, 1951 in Accomack County, Virginia to the late George and Mable Addison, Sr. She left this earthly world early Monday morning, October 17, 2022 at her residence.

Joyce received her education in the public schools of Accomack County and was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. Upon graduation, she moved to New York where she worked for Chase Bank for over twenty years. In later years, Joyce returned to the Shore and gained employment at Walmart in Pocomoke, Maryland. She dedicated twenty-five years of service and loved every moment of it.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age. Joyce was a faithful and devoted member of Snead’s Memorial United Methodist Church in Keller, Virginia. She served as an usher, communion steward, and PPR. Joyce organized “Walmart Day” at Snead’s, she was so happy to have her associates worship with her each year on this special day. In later years, she organized the “Back to School Drive” and assisted with the youth program.

In 1991, Joyce met the love of her life, Boyd White. They were married on January 4, 1997 and they shared twenty-five years of marital bliss.

Joyce’s greatest joy in life was her family. She loved them more than anything, especially her son and grandchildren. Joyce would give them anything they asked for. She was quick to tell them that she couldn’t cook, but she would feed them.

Joyce loved to shop, especially for designer handbags, watches, socks, and anything with a leopard print. She also liked to eat out at her favorite restaurants.

Joyce never met a stranger. She had a heart of gold and would give you her last. She called everybody her son or daughter, mainly because she couldn’t remember their name. Her loving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her loving memories are her husband of twenty-five years, Boyd White of Painter, VA; son, Duane James, Sr. of Bronx, NY; stepdaughter, Tyneisha White of Princess Anne, MD; grandchildren, Duane James, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Nehtrice James of Albany, NY; siblings, Kathy McWhite of Brooklyn, NY and George (Steven) Addison, Jr. of Manhattan, NY; sister-in-law, Deborah (Scott) Maddox of Marion Station, MD; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Yvonne) Armwood of Delmar, MD and Antonio (Angie) Armwood of Salisbury, MD; niece, Vida (Anthony) McCullough; nephews, David (Kisha) McWhite, Jr. and Niko McWhite; cousins, Robert (Geraldine) Addison and Charlie (Shirleen) Addison; five special daughters, Nakisha Howard, Lakeisha (Shelby) Joyner, Tranelle Copes, Felicia Lankford, and Lisa Dickerson; close friends, Francesta Watts, Inez (James) Nock, and Sylvia Milbourne; godchild, Zykeese Davis; thirteen bonus grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
