Katherine Grace Fletcher-Smith was born to Isaac and Ambert Fletcher on July 8, 1937. She completed her earthly assignment and transitioned to her eternal home on December 5, 2020 at Coliseum Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
Upon graduating from high school, Katherine entered the work force and took care of her mother. She was a faithful employee of Perdue Farms until she retired. Katherine’s greatest accomplishment was on August 13, 1960, when she gave birth to her one and only son, William Quincy Fletcher.
Later in life, Katherine met her life partner and friend, Upsher Smith. The two married on June 6, 1981 and they made their home in Painter, Virginia. From this union two families became one blended family.
Upon retiring from Perdue Farms, “Ma Katherine” as she was affectionally known, transitioned to the next phase of her life. In February 2002, “Ma Katherine” gave her life to the Lord and joined Foundation of Faith Ministries, where she was set on fire for the Lord. She enjoyed being a part of the ministry and would always say that she enjoyed running down behind her spiritual son. Whether it was giving the welcome, serving on the Hospitality Committee, or prepping for communion, she served the Lord with joy in her heart. She was a very faithful and dedicated member until her health failed. Even in illness, “Ma Katherine” lived by her favorite scripture, Phillipians 4:12 Part A: " I know both how to be abased and I know how to be abound.” She never complained. “Ma Katherine” had a smile and laugh that was contagious. Even when she became ill, she never lost her praise.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Upsher Smith and her son, William Quincy Fletcher.
“Ma Katherine’s” loving, humble, spunky, and meek spirit will truly be cherished in the lives of her two granddaughters, Centoria Fisher (Immanuel) and LaRhonda Fletcher; two great-granddaughters, Emalynn Fisher and Taylor Fisher; daughter-in-law, Betty Fletcher; two bonus daughters, Stephanie Smith and Tricia Smith; eight bonus grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Tyler Burrows, Tyrone Giddens, Jr., Alexis Saintphard, Tyquan Giddens, Tiffany Smith, Jasmine Smith, and Elijah Smith; eight bonus great-grandchildren; her spiritual son and Overseer, Bishop David Sabatino and daughter, Gloria Sabatino; along with a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
