Obituary for Kevonte' Jaquan "Poppy" Sample

Kevonte’ Jaquan Sample was born on November 3, 2000 in Nasawadox, Virginia to Shakeisha Sample (Joseph “Joe” Richardson) and Quinton Washington. Kevonte’ affectionately known as “Poppy,” a loving son, brother, uncle, grandchild, cousin, and friend, entered into eternal rest on August 24, 2022 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Kevonte’ adored his mother, who raised him and his sisters, as a single mom. Poppy grew up in Pocomoke City, Maryland and attended Worcester County Public Schools. He graduated with honors from Pocomoke High School in 2020. While in high school, Poppy joined the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) program, and enjoyed the program so much he would walk home in his uniform from school. In his leisure, he enjoyed fine arts, playing soccer, and riding bikes with his homeboys. Upon graduation, Kevonte’ desired to be a mechanic in the Army. Instead of taking his career path, he gained employment at SPI Industries, plastic fabrication company in Pocomoke City, Maryland where he was the main Mold Technician.

He leaves to cherish his many wonderful memories: his strong, caring, and resilient mother, Shakeisha Sample (Joseph “Joe” Richardson); father, Quinton Washington; two sisters, Keara Sample and Bre’ana Richardson; his beautiful niece, T’yana Sample; grandparents, Linda Hall, Mary Washington, and Robert Lee Farmer; special aunt, Katrina “Micey” Davis; best friend, Marquis Moore; special childhood friends, Nigel Houston and Brendon Shrieves; his cousins, Quincy Williams and Nicolas “Nick Bean” Drummond; big brothers, Quintavion Washington and Marquel Washington; girlfriend and the love of his life, Montanaye “Naye” Murph and her loved ones whom treated him like a son. In addition, Kevonte’ also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, seven paternal siblings, and friends to cherish his memories. Forever missed.

Sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
