Laura Jacqueline Strand Duncan, affectionately known as “Jackie,” was the third daughter born to the late John William Strand and Laura Ames Strand. She was born on January 6, 1946 in Nassawadox, Virginia. She attended the public schools of Accomack County and was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. Laura peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 9, 2023 in the comfort of her own home, surrounded with love.
Jackie was known for her excellent laborious work at ACME Supermarket for twenty plus years, where she retired. She later joined the cafeteria team at Wallops Exchange and Association on NASA base, where she labored for fifteen years.
Jackie was a faithful member and servant at St. John’s United Methodist Church. During her tenure, you could always see her smiling face either on the second row or at the door ushering. Her first love was always the church.
Some of her biggest joys in life were helping other people, grabbing ice cream from Island Creamery, and hanging with her granddaughter, Ciara. Laura had a heart to serve and if you crossed paths with her, you were blessed to experience her gigantic selfless heart.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, John W. Strand, Jr., Rosemarie Strand Davis, Margaret “Peggy” Upshur, Joyce Whitehead Lewis, and William C. “Billy” Strand.
Jackie leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Teresa D. Bunting of Mappsville, VA; her son, Marvin E. Drummond of Lomita, CA; one sister, Kathryn S. Abney (Alvin) of Forest Park, GA; one brother, J. Richard Strand (Diane) of Melfa, VA; seven grandchildren, Ciara Drummond, Brittany Harmon, Matisha Drummond, Marvin Drummond, Xavier Drummond, Jasmine Justis, and Zawadi Stith; five bonus kids, Laurine (Harold) White, Jermaine Duncan, Alex Duncan, Gregory (Nakia) Duncan, Jr., and Tyneka (Darrin) Flythe; ten great-grandchildren; a special niece, Ivonnia Drummond; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jackie blessed many people and will be greatly missed.
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
