Obituary for Lawrence Gregory "Greg" Strand

Gregory Lawrence Strand, beloved son of the late James E. Tatem and Ida Mae Strand Tatem, was born on October 16, 1957 in Parksley, Virginia. He departed this life on October 17, 2021 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia.

Greg, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Accomack County and was a 1977 graduate of Parksley High School. After graduation, he entered the workforce at Holly Farms, now Tyson Foods. In later years, Greg relocated to New Jersey and gained employment in Asbury Park and Seaside Heights with the local carnival. In recent years, he decided to move back home to the Eastern Shore. When he returned, he began working at Perdue Foods in Accomac.

Greg enjoyed fellowshipping with the New Metompkin Baptist Church congregation in Parksley, Virginia.

In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Another favorite pastime was singing and dancing at the “Happy Hour Club,” conveniently located at his brother, Speedy’s Club House.

Greg was a just a happy, go lucky kind of person, who truly enjoyed life to the fullest. He possessed a kind and loving spirit that will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He would always greet his loved ones with his favorite saying, “I love you” and “Everything is copactectic.”

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Billy” Strand and William “Fuzzy” Strand.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his son, Tyshaun Drummond; five grandchildren, Tyshaun, Jr., Jestasia, Ty’Jire, Ty’Zanae, and Ty’Zion; his devoted companion for over thirty years, Heidi Hofman; siblings, David McClamy, John (Phyllis) McClamy, Teresa (Robert) Brown, Edith McClamy, Tina (Jerome) Kennedy, and Vernon (Louise) Tatem; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
