Obituary for Leaner Mae Conquest (Harmon)

Leaner Mae Harmon Conquest fell asleep in death on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at approximately 3:00 pm, at her home, with her daughters by her side. She was born in Daugherty, Virginia on October 20, 1935. Leaner was the first to survive the birth of six prior children and helped raise the following six children. She earned her diploma from Mary Nottingham Smith High School and later married Ermon L. Conquest. Sr. and moved to Savageville.

Leaner worked at the Parksley Shirt Factory for a number of years, and later worked at Perdue. After leaving Perdue, she cleaned houses and babysat until retiring.

Leaner loved being around her family and she loved flowers and planted them every year. She also loved playing cards (Bid Whist and Spades) and would play all night at times. Leaner was fond of the beach and spending time there. She also enjoyed her clam sandwiches and would travel far to get one.

Leaner also loved to travel to various places including New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Georgia.

She became a Jehovah’s Witness and had a passion for learning from the Bible. She enjoyed going into field service with her friends and sharing the truth’s she learned.

In later years, she became a dialysis patient, and she loved the staff, and they cherished her. She was clearly loved by many.

Leaner survived the passing of parents: Hencer and Marliean Harmon; husband, Ermon Conquest, Sr.; brothers, Hencer Harmon, Jr., William Harmon, and Donald Harmon; daughter, Lois Ann Conquest; grandson, Calvin E. Ficklin, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Hilda Harmon and Brenda Harmon; brother-in-law, Adolph Reed; son-in-law, Calvin Powell, Sr.; nephew, Chester Harmon; and niece, Pamela Harmon.

She leaves the following to cherish her love, children, Geraldine Ficklin (Calvin) of NJ, Janet Conquest Powell, Shirley Godwin (Alonzo), and Ermon Conquest, Jr. (Tammy), all of VA; special niece, Debora Harmon (Lenton) of GA, step-daughter, Lisa Turner of NJ; grandchildren, Darian Ficklin, Ajani Ficklin, Chana Powell, Calvin Powell, Jr., Corvin Powell, Nicole Conquest, LaShea Conquest, Jamar Conquest, Corey Conquest, Shirell Godwin, Alicia Godwin, and DeAnna Ridley; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Harmon-NJ; two sisters, Annie Reed and Shirley Young, both of NJ; sisters-in-law, Delores Harmon Jackson (William) of GA and Beulah Hickman of NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
