Obituary for Lenwood Byrd Jr.

Lenwood Byrd Jr. was born on November 3, 1940 to the late Lynwood Byrd, Sr. and Margaret Augusta Rayfield. He departed this life on June 24, 2022 at Shore Health and Rehab Center in Parksley, Virginia.

Lenwood, affectionately called “Pop” by his grandchildren, was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. He was a member of the New Metompkin Baptist Church in Parksley, Virginia. He retired from Campbell Soup in Salisbury, Maryland, after dedicating over 35 years of service.

Pop’s passion and joy was cutting grass and cleaning yards. He loved spending time with his son planting flowers and taking care of his yard. Pop loved to keep his vehicles nice and shiny. He was known for being well dressed, his stylish fashion, and his sense of humor. Pop also loved to dance and have a good time. In his younger years, Pop enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Nationals Motorcycle Club of Salisbury, Maryland.

In addition to his parents, Lenwood was preceded in death by his brother, William Byrd; three sons, Perry, Barry, and Lawrence Byrd, Sr.; and a special friend, Montrue Anderson.

He is survived by his four daughters, Marshell Handy of Parksley, VA, Maria (Dion) Price of Clinton, MD, Lynette Byrd of Oxon Hill, MD, and Anitra Byrd of Princess Anne, MD; one daughter-in-law, Denise Byrd of Parksley, VA; nine grandchildren, LaRhonda Byrd, Antron (Shareece) Byrd, Lawrence Byrd, Jr., Ashley (Kentrelle) Walker, Chatara Watson, Xavier Price, Monica Deshields, Marquise Mason, and Tormesha Battle; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends.
