Obituary for Leslie Ann Lankford (Austin)

Leslie Ann Austin-Lankford was born on January 16, 1973, in Wilmington, DE. She was the youngest daughter to Esther Austin and the late Jerry Johnson. She departed this life on Friday, April 9, 2021 at her youngest daughter’s home in Greenbackville, VA.

Although she grew up in Delaware, she often visited with her grandmother, the late Marion Austin in Horntown, VA. There she met her lifelong love of 33 years, Roger Kenneth Lankford “Kenny.” They wed on October 15, 2016.

Leslie worked in many industries, but her greatest role was “Mommy” and “Mom Mom.” She loved her 5 children and 7 grandchildren with every fiber of her being. She dedicated her life to raising and caring for them. If she had it to give, she would without hesitation. She would do anything for them (except trust them around her knickknacks).

She leaves to cherish her memories and carry on her legacy: loving husband, Roger Kenneth “Kenny” Lankford; children, Ashia Austin (Antoine Perry), Marteka Austin-Northan (Avion Northan), Denzel Timmons, Raheem Lankford (Taylor Ayres), Raneeka Lankford (Tyrell Miller) and Jiarre Lankford; 7 grandchildren, Ja’Sean Conquest, Amir Lankford, Arrionna Northan, Ava Northan, Kinsley Miller, Raheem Lankford, Jr., and Khy’an Neal; mother, Esther Austin (Felix (Cruz) Dejesus); second mother and aunt, Mary Austin; siblings, Nancy Austin, Jimmy “Jimbo” Austin and Timothy “Timmy” Austin, Roshida Austin, Carlos “T.C.” Austin, LoriAnn Taylor, Gregory Collick, and Bernice Dorsey; best friends, Reese and Beetle; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Johnson; her sister, Shirley Austin; her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Leslie will be remembered for her big heart, her contagious laugh, her genuine spirit, her good cooking and her smart mouth. To know her was to love her. The love she gave can never be replaced and we thank her for it.
