Obituary for Madeline Virginia "Mat" Fletcher (Banks)

Madeline Virginia Fletcher, who was affectionately called “Mat,” fell asleep in death at Hartley Hall Nursing and Rehab Facility in Pocomoke, Maryland on May 15, 2023. She was born March 4, 1930 to Eddie and Rita Banks. Madeline was married to Emanuel Fletcher, Sr. She was the mother of four sons, Harvey, Jr., Glenn, Norris, and Cornal;and stepmother to one stepson, and one stepdaughter.

Madeline received her education in the Accomack County Public Schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mappsville, Virginia. She was employed by Holly Farms as a poultry worker for many years.

She was a loving and caring woman. Her mild spirit and kindness were the essence of her personality.

Madeline enjoyed many activities at Hartley Hall such as Bingo, coloring, and listening to music. She was proficient at word search, often helping her daughter-in-law Olive, to complete her page.

Madeline is survived by two sons, Harvey (Mary) and Glenn (Olive); stepson, Emanuel, Jr.; stepdaughter, Maxine; five grandchildren, Glenn, Jr., Aaron, Harvey, III, Tanesia, Tiffany, and Terrell; eleven great-grandchildren, Terrell, Terrance, Justin, Alana, Sahara, Tyahanna, Ezekiel, Ajee, Najee, Devon, and Nikyah; six great, great-grandchildren, Atia, Terrell, Jr., Tyree, Tyrique, Terrance, Jr., and Jaylee; and five stepgrandchildren, Emanuel, III, Chantel, Demarcus, Karey, and Karesha.

Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel; her sons, Cornal and Norris; her parents, Eddie and Rita; her sister, Mary; and brothers, Preston and Ned.

Her children, their wives, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends will lovingly miss her.
