Obituary for Marva Celestine Smith (Rue)

Marva Celestine Rue was born on January 8, 1957, to the late Kenzy and Lois Rue. She departed this life on September 16, 2022, in Onancock, Virginia.

Marva was educated in the Accomack County Public School System. After the completion of high school, she was blessed to have a beautiful daughter whom she named, Chastity, also known as “Chat.” As a child, Marva would tuck her daughter up in several blankets to ensure her warmth and safety. She would also leave notes around the house for Chat saying, “Chastity, I love you. Your mother loves you darling always.”

Marva entered the workforce while still in high school. She was employed at Holly Farms, now Tyson Foods, for almost forty years until she retired in 2018. While employed at Tyson Foods, she met many friends while working on the lines.

In April 2020, Marva received news from the doctor that she had cancer. She then began her journey of chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy. During this time, she did not allow her cancer to stop her as she would go on frequent shopping trips with her daughter and go out to eat with her nieces all the time. On October 6, 2021, Marva was able to complete her radiotherapy allowing her to receive a certificate. Throughout her journey, she would say “God has the first and last say.”

Marva was preceded in death by her parents, Kenzy Rue, Jr. and Lois Rue; her baby brother, Ervin; her older sister, Earnestine; twin sister, Barbara; and brother-in-law, Charlie White.

She is survived by her daughter, Chastity Rue; brothers, Sewell Cropper, Sr., Lowrence, and Warren Rue; sister, Joanne Rue; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lovingly submitted,
The Family
