Mary Frances Nock, the beloved daughter of the late James I. and Hattie F. Broughton, was born June 28, 1940 in Temperanceville, Virginia. She departed this life on Friday, March 17, 2023 in Newport News, Virginia.
Mary received her education in the public schools of Accomack County, Virginia. She was converted, baptized, and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Temperanceville, Virginia at a young age.
On June 22, 1957, Mary married Ralph E. Nock; from this union they had two sons and four daughters.
After Mary’s union to Ralph, she joined First Baptist Church in Mappsville, Virginia under the leadership of Reverend M.T. Boone. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Cornell Hearn Memorial Choir, and a Deaconess. She loved listening to gospel music and watching Golden Girls, game shows, Sanford and Son, and Tyler Perry shows. She will be greatly missed.
Mary was employed at R&G shirt factory in Parksley, Virginia for twenty-five years before retiring and becoming a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Nock Sr.; a son, Ralph Nock Jr.; a grandson, Laquan Nock; three sisters, Doretha Tatem, Elouise Broughton, and Darlene Dennis; and two brothers, James and Lester Broughton.
Mary leaves to cherish her memories: five children, Sebastian E. Nock of Modest Town, VA, Joyce N. Tatem (Paul) of Parksley, VA, Deborah Woolford (Louis) of New Church, VA, Shirleen A Harmon (Linwood) of Accomac, VA, and Sanfara N Christian (Mark) of Brooklyn Park, MD; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; nine great, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Tatem (Vernon) of Perth Amboy, NJ and Evangeline Hickman of Parksley, VA; one brother, Robert Broughton (Violet) of Seaford, DE; one brother-in-law, William Tatem of Modest Town, VA; fur grandbaby, Kyle; and a host of other relatives and friends.
