Obituary for Mary Ann Riley (Drummond)

Print
Our beloved Mary Ann Riley of Onancock, Virginia was born on September 2, 1938 to the late Cora and Lee Drummond. Mary gained her wings on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

Mary received her education in the Accomack County School system. In 1957, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Noah James Riley. She was employed at Holly Farms and Eastern Shore Seafood, also known as “The Crab House.” She was the best crab picker around.

At an early age, she confessed her life to Christ and joined St. John Baptist Church in Onancock. She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail.

During her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball. She also enjoyed cooking, singing, playing five thousand, doing crossword puzzles and keeping her grandchildren. Mary was known for laughter, good times, and listening to everyone’s secrets.

She was by far a strong, caring and loving soul who was committed to keeping her family going.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Noah J. Riley; one grandchild, James Drummond, Jr.; four brothers, Forrest Drummond, Amos Drummond, Oscar Drummond and Joe Drummond; six sisters, Leah Giddens, Sadie West, Alice Trader, Joyce Bunting, Loretta Brim, and Cora Bailey; and one son-in-law, Harry Thomas Matthews.

She leaves to mourn: three sons, James Drummond of Onancock, VA, Elvis Drummond of Vineland, NJ, and Sherwood Riley of Cincinnati, OH; three daughters, Dorethea Matthews of Onancock, VA, Doris (Thomas) Neal of Salisbury, MD, and DeShirley Riley of Withams, VA; four step-children, Laronn Smith of Parksley, VA, Victor Matthews of Onancock, VA, Terence Smith of Bloxom, VA, and Noah Matthews of Withams, VA; sixteen grandchildren, Tylissa, Shaquina, Shyreka, Vivian, Tycole, Kendrick, Reicko, Victor, Kiara, Brittany, Coushunba, Laronn, Cherrie, Keynatta, Terence, and Christopher, twenty- eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, Mary Rogers, Jean Satchell Corine Smith and Mazie Harmon; four brothers-in-law, Melvin Satchell, Warren Satchell, Stanley Satchell, and Claude Satchell; one son-in-law, Thomas Neal; five daughters-in-law, Debra Matthews, Brenda Smith, Lisa Smith, Barbara Riley, and Agatha Drummond; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
