Obituary for Pearlie Mae "Ma Pearl" Dickerson (Downing)

Pearlie Mae Dickerson, daughter of the late Vernon L. Downing, Sr. and Lena White Downing, was born on March 5, 1939 in Mappsville, Virginia. She departed this life on February 4, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Pearlie received her education in the Accomack County Public Schools. She was employed at Holly Farms for numerous years and also at worked at Stoltzfus Plant Farm in Maryland for over twenty years. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She served faithfully as Head Usher at Faith Christian Tabernacle Ministries under the late Apostle Govan Snead, Sr. In later years, she became a faithful member of Fresh Anointing Worship Center under the leadership Pastor Vincent West and Lady Elect Dora West. She loved serving and praising the Lord with all her heart and reading her Bible.

Pearlie also enjoyed planting flowers, crabbing, cooking, traveling, helping others, and spending quality time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence D. Dickerson; four sisters, Marion Downing, Frances Parker, Catherine Justice, and Mildred Shrieves; two brothers, Harold Downing and Diree Justice, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her four daughters, Temeka Dickerson of Mappsville, VA, Lakonda (Roy) Bowser of New Church, VA, Rosa (Steve) Justice of Mappsville, VA, and Alice (Willie) Jones of New Church, VA; three sons, Eddie Savage, Bruce Johnson, both of Mappsville, VA, and David (Lynda) Dickerson of Atlantic, VA; stepdaughter, Cortina Bailey of Painter, VA; goddaughter, Augusta (Roger) Scarborough of Mappsville, VA; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great, grandchildren; eleven great, great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon (Lincebell) Downing, Jr. of Mappsville, VA and Diree Justice, Jr. of Wattsville, VA; one sister, Jacqueline (Baxter) Lilliston of Parksley, VA; one sister-in-law, Essie Dickerson of Wattsville, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
