Obituary for Peggy Ann Colone (Townsend)

Peggy Townsend Colone was born on April 14, 1946 in Horntown, Virginia to the late Chester Pitts, Sr. and Ruth Handy Morris. She departed this life on December 15, 2020.

Peggy was educated in Worcester County Public Schools. She moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1967 and completed Job Corp in Poland Spring, Massachusetts in that same year. She worked for New England Telephone Company for twenty-eight years.

Peggy returned to the Eastern Shore in 1997, she joined Dea’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Horntown, Virginia. She served her church as a member of the choir, Women’s Society, Treasurer, Church Clerk, and Secretary. She also loved to cook, take walks, and play Bingo.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Pitts, Sr. and Ruth Handy Morris; stepfather, Beatrice Thomas Handy; brother, Thomas Handy; and a grandson, Timothy Darnell, Jr.

Peggy leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Timothy Townsend, Sr. and Kevin Townsend; five grandchildren, Takayia Curay, Kevin Townsend, Jr., Michael Townsend, Gabriel Townsend, and Isaiah Townsend; fourteen siblings, Geraldine Mason, Robert (Marion) Handy, Charles (Julia) Townsend, Norman Pitts, Howard Pitts, Brooks Pitts, Chester Pitts, Joshua Pitts, Lawrence Pitts, Helena Pitts, Sallie Pitts, Cassandra Pitts, Joanne Pitts, and Diane Pitts; and a host of other relatives and friends.
