Obituary for Rachel Ann Reid
It all started on December 2, 1975, when Allan and the late Judith Reid welcomed their second child, Rachel Ann, into the world. This welcome took place at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.
Rachel was educated in the New York City Public School system, attending Boys and Girls High School for a short time and later graduating from Pacific High School In 1993. She attended Borough of Manhattan Community College and pursued an Associate’s Degree in Social Work. Rachel worked with her father, as an office manager, at his cable company, Smyrna Satcom, for a few years. Later, she obtained work at Henry Street Settlement for approximately ten years. She started as a part-time intern and clerical staff at the Urban Family Center. Rachel then took a part-time position as a Recreation Assistant for a short time while she worked in the culinary field. She later became the full-time Administrative Assistant and Operational support for the entire staff and residents. She then accepted a new position as Office Manager for Breaking Ground, where she worked skillfully for many years.
Rachel was reared at Philadelphia Smyrna Assembly of Yahshua’s Disciples, pastored by her great-grandmother, the late Prophetess Olivia “Setilia” Mitchell. There she was taught the commandments of Yah and holy living. After some years of straying away from the church, Rachel was invited to church by Jarius Toogood in 1997. She took him up on the offer and visited Congregation El Beth-El in the Bronx and joined the same day. The very next week, she went back to Smyrna and received the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Since then, she was on fire for Yahweh. She served faithfully at her church and under her pastor, the late Bishop Preston Toogood. Rachel served as a nurse, on the Praise and Worship team, in the choir, on the Hospitality Committee, and the Finance Committee. Bishop Toogood saw something in her and gave her the designation “Daughter of Intercession” and was called “Daughter Ray.” She also was licensed as a minister. Rachel loved to serve. Not only did she serve at her home church, but wherever she went she could be found serving in the kitchen or doing whatever her hands found to do.
Rachel loved Yahweh with all her heart and she loved his people. She loved traveling, especially to Lexington, KY for conventions. She was a praiser and never let her nurse uniform hinder her from getting a step in. Her pursuit, after Yahweh, led her to enroll in Dominion Theological Seminary, where she was pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Biblical Studies until her untimely transition.
Rachel had an infectious laugh. She loved her family immensely. Rachel took care of her sister Anna until her death. She loved anything music, dancing, and just good old plain fun. On April 26, 2017, she married Onyedika Umeanaeto.
On February 18, 2021, at Kings County Hospital, after a brief battle with COVID, Rachel slipped into the bosom of Yahweh and stuck her sword in the sands of time to study war no more. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories her husband, Onyedika Umeanaeto; father, Allan S. Reid, Sr.; godson, Jonathan Tyler Toogood; siblings, Elizabeth I. Tonkumoh (Kingsley), Allan S. Reid, Jr.(Wanda), Monica L. Houston, Quaseem N. Wilson, Jefferey Reid, and Jonathan Reid; grandmother, Elnora Marshall; great aunt, Betty Harmon; great uncle, John Mitchell; nieces, Evan Reid, Alicia Buchman, Amira O., and Amahlah Dorceus; nephew, Daishawn Reid, Terelle Dorceus, and Allan S. Reid, III; two best friends and adopted siblings, Jonathan Aaron Toogood and Fredrina Jones-Dorceus(Terelle); two longtime friends, Aretha Vance and Valencia Ervin; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
