Deaconess Rosie Mae Mills (62), the beloved daughter of the late Leon Harmon, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Wharton Harmon, was born in Assawoman, Virginia on August 12, 1959. She departed this life at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia and stepped from time into eternity and from labor to reward on January 27, 2022.
Sister Rosie, as she was respectfully and affectionately known, was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. She graduated from Atlantic High School in Oak Hall, Virginia in 1977.
In 1984, Sister Rosie was united in holy matrimony with her adoring husband, the late Noah Mills. Their marriage was filled with love and commitment as they raised their only son, Anthony, in a caring and nurturing home.
Sister Rosie was a faithful employee of Perdue Farms in Accomac, Virginia for thirty-six years until her retirement in August 2021. Her last position held was as a QA inspector. At Perdue, she made many lifelong friends through her words of encouragements and love that she showed to everyone she met. Our precious sister was always filled with smiles and hugs, which were genuine from her heart because of her love for the Lord.
In 1997, at a Watson, Wharton, and Fisher’s Day Service, our Lord drew her to Him by an inspiring message preached by her father in the Gospel, the late Elder Kenneth M. Watson. On this day, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and soon became a dedicated and faithful member of St. Joseph Holiness Church in Atlantic, Virginia under the leadership of the late Bishop Elton Brown, followed by the late Pastor Marlene P. Brown, and now by Pastor Elder Valerie A. Harmon.
In her service to God, Sister Rosie grew in the grace and knowledge of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with willingness to obey the Spirit’s leading as He used her powerfully to speak prophetic words of exhortation to the Body of Christ.
Her tireless efforts in serving humbly and faithfully as an assistant head usher, member of the kitchen committee and choir, and substitute Sunday school teacher will be remembered and greatly missed. In 2019, she was elected to serve as an appointed Deacon at St. Joseph Holiness Church.
Sister Rosie enjoyed reading the Bible, doing puzzles, and sending daily words of encouragements via group text message. She also loved going out to dinner with family and friends and spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and cooking.
Sister Rosie will be remembered by many for her loving smile, hearty laughter, and motherly character. She would often tell you in a jovial way, “You’re not behaving yourself.” She will also be fondly remembered by all of her nieces and nephews for being the aunt that loved to pinch their cheeks.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Darlene Davis, Queenie Morris, and Teresa West; brother, Leon Harmon, Jr.; nephew, John Harmon, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Robert James, Sr. and Elizah West.
Our beloved sister, mother, aunt, cousin, friend, and so much more, Deaconess Rosie Mae Mills leaves to cherish the memories of her exemplary life: a loyal son, Anthony Harmon of Temperancville, VA; four grandchildren, De-ja Solis (Marco), Tre-von Harmon, Ja-den Harmon, and Ava-lea Harmon; one great-granddaughter, Roxanna Solis; siblings, John (Pastor Valerie) Harmon, Joanne Blake, Jeannette (William) Gardner, and Gracie James; uncles, Jerome (Jean) Wharton and Clinton Wharton; brother-in-law, Thomas Davis, Sr.; special beloved mother of her grandchildren, Maggie Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
Lovingly submitted
