Obituary for Roy Lee Douglas Sr.

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, our family circle was broken when God called one of his own, Roy Lee Douglas, Sr., home to be with him. He was born on June 26, 1946 in Accomack County, Virginia to the late Richard Douglas and Lenoria Strand.

Roy was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. In 1963, he joined the United States Army and served in this branch for five years. In the 1970s, Roy enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in this branch for seven years. He proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. After his military service, Roy ventured into the trucking industry. He was proud to be the owner and operator of his company. Throughout the years, Roy transported many goods. Before his retirement, he was a contract driver for the United States Postal Service.

Roy enjoyed the outdoors and could be found sitting outside with his friends conversing. Another favorite pastime was watching cartoons.

In 2009, he married the love of his life, Irene Finney. They shared thirteen years of marriage until his passing.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his stepson, Abbadeen West and nephew, Richard Douglas, III.

Roy leaves to cherish his fond memories: his loving wife, Irene Douglas; two children, Roy Lee Douglas, Jr. and Dana Douglas; two grandchildren, Aaron Kelly and Amir Ali; two great-grandchildren, Aliya Kelly and Adrian Kelly; two siblings, Richard (Brenda) Douglas and Sylvia Page; four stepsons, Faheem Finney, George West, William West, and Charles Major; fifteen step-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Sara (Cornelius) Corbin, Phyllis Garvin, Hallie (Dalton) Christopher, Ineta McLaughlin, Doretha West, and Lavone Bell; favorite nephew, Darris (Mirella) White; devoted friend and caregiver, Donald Veney; special friend, William Bailey; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives, and friends.

Lovingly submitted,
The Family
