Obituary for Rudolph Valentino Washington

Print
Rudolph Valentino Washington, affectionately known as “Rudy,” was born on October 2, 1939 to the late Booker T. and Australia Washington in Accomack County, Virginia. He departed this life to Glory on October 6, 2018 at the Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center in Parksley Virginia.

Rudy was a loving husband and father, who also loved Christ and spoke of Him often. Rudy met and married the late Loress Pettit in 1959, and out of this sixteen year union, four daughters were born. He later met and married Shirley Ann Corbin in 1984, and out of this thirty-four year union, three sons were born.

He attended the Accomack County Public Schools. He worked in the poultry industry for many years until he retired from Hudson Foods in Berlin, Maryland. When not at work, Rudy enjoyed spending time with his family and going to the race track with his close friend, Dalton. He also enjoyed many years of working with his hands-from fixing cars, doing construction projects, and just creating things. We’ve all heard the saying, “One Man’s Junk Is Another Man’s Treasure.” Rudy was a prime example of that saying. He could take something that someone would consider junk and turn it into something useful and special.

He was predeceased by one son, Raymond Corbin; three brothers, William, Leroy, and Albert Washington; three sisters, Rebecca Bell, Carrie Goodman, and Joetta Fisher; one step-brother, Carol Parker; and one grandson, Ernest “BJ” Washington.

Left to mourn his passing are: his loving wife, Shirley Washington; four daughters, Martha Washington of NJ, Jean Brown (Tommy) of NY, Dalphine Washington (Gabe) of SC, and Madeline Washington (Wayne) of Hallwood, VA; two sons, Richard Corbin (Jennifer) of Norfolk, VA and Michael Washington (Tracy) of Salisbury, MD; sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Novella Shreives of Trenton, NJ, Pansy Bloxom (James) of Trenton, NJ, and Sally Edwards of Trenton, NJ; three brothers, Lynwood Washington of Nelsonia, VA, George “Jake” Washington (Dorthy) and Booker T. “Cookie” Washington, Jr., both of Trenton, NJ; seven sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
