Obituary for Sadra Louise "Sadie" Dickerson (Abbott)

Sadra Louise Dickerson was born on November 3, 1950 in Accomac, Virginia to the late Johnnie Abbott, Sr. and Carrie Abbott Smith. She departed this world on March 20, 2022 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia.

Sadra was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools. Upon graduation, she entered the workforce at Holly Farms, now Tyson Foods, in Temperanceville, Virginia. She worked there for several years, until her health began to fail.

Sadra’s greatest love was her family. She always made time for them no matter what. Her home was always opened to anyone, whether you were just stopping by, needed a place to stay, or something to eat; all were welcomed. Sadra was a generous person and was willing to share anything she had with whomever was in need. These loving traits will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. In her leisure, Sadra enjoyed riding out and going to lunch with her daughter, playing the lottery, watching game shows, and playing cards.

In addition to her parents, Sadra was preceded in death by her siblings, Frances Abbott, Shelia Abbott, Jennie Tumblin, Carrie Abbott Shrieves, Sadie Gunter, Shelly Abbott, Dorsey Byrd, and Levon Gunter; grandsons, Javel Hunter and Jamaz Boggs; and brothers-in-law, Elmer Dickerson and Milton Dickerson.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: her husband, Walter Dickerson; children, Karen Hunter (Ceylon McLaughlin), James (LaToya) Hunter, Lurrell Banks, Shinetelius Dickerson, and Shaletta Dickerson; adopted children whom she raised as her own, Dwayne Miller, Yolanda Corbin, Marie Duncan, and Anthony Wise; grandchildren, Dynomeke Hunter, D’Wayne (Tameshia) Hunter, Jessica Tyler, Jasmine Hunter, Jamar Hunter, Jaron Hunter, Janaya Tyler, Kemora Boggs, Jamaya Boggs, Jaylen Boggs, Makai Banks, Jabreon Dickerson, Waltasia Mason, Daverion Dickerson, Titus Floyd, Jr., Y’Nique Drummond, Tyneisha Purnell, Maurice Purnell, Jr., Maurkice Purnell, and Natasha Corbin; great-grandchildren, William Collins, Jr., Willow Collins, Deajah Hunter, DiNajah Hunter, Dajah Hunter, Jasir Gale, Jesiah Tyler, Harmony Avant, Kingston Tyler, Ma’Khi Tull, Jayceon Dickerson, Jahlil Dickerson, Ky’Akir Floyd, and Cyan Copes; siblings, Dorothy Mitchell, Grace (Bobby) Byrd, Lillie Abbott-Bailey, Mary Garvin, Deborah Smith, Barbara Abbott, Annette Chaney, Johnnie (Shirley) Abbott, Jr., Vandora (Albert) Bateman, and Odessa (Glenn) Lyles; sisters-in-law, Lula Dickerson, Caroline White, and Lincebell (Vernon) Downing; brothers-in-law, Ernest (Terri) Dickerson, Linwood Dickerson, Roger Dickerson, and Winfred Dickerson; two very special friends, Avon Mason and Ineta McLaughlin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Lovingly and sorrowfully submitted,
The Family
