Samuel Lee Smith, Sr. was born to the late Ivan E. Smith and Rosetta Beach Smith on February 1, 1937. He departed this life on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Nassawadox, Virginia.
“Pop”, as he was affectionately known by everyone, was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. His life’s work was dedicated to Scarborough Farms in Painter, Virginia and Stubbs's Seafood on Chincoteague Island, Virginia.
Pop accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1998 and was a VERY faithful and dedicated member of Anointed Word of Deliverance COGIC under the leadership of his son, Pastor Samuel L. Smith Jr., until he was no longer able to physically attend.
Having a great since of humor, Pop enjoyed hiding and sneaking up on people to scare them. He loved to sing hymns to the point where he said “they were getting happy at work listening to me sing.”
Pop was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Norman and Ernest Smith.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: three sons, Skowron Smith of NY, Alexander Williams of Painter, VA, and Samuel (Tiffany) Smith of Melfa, VA; five daughters, Emmagerald Smith (Calvin) Thompson of NY, Loretta Smith (Bernard) Miller of NY, Rose Williams & Shyneatta Dunn, both of Painter, VA, and Rykeata Dunn of Daugherty, VA; three brothers, Thomas (Rosie) Smith of Painter, VA, Willie Smith of Painter, VA, and John Henry (Pearl) Smith of Exmore, VA; two sisters, Catherine Perkins of DE and Rosa Sheppard of NY; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
