Obituary for Sara Lucille Fisher

Sara Lucille Mapp Fisher was born on May 22, 1932 in Wachapreague, Virginia to the late Samuel H. Mapp and Lucille Wise Mapp. She was preceded in death by six brothers, two passed as infants, Samuel H. Mapp, George W. Mapp, Jon A. Mapp, and Charles P. Mapp; and her husband, James Fisher. On November 14, 2022, she transitioned from labor to reward.

When most of us could talk, Sara taught us to call her “Nanny.” To some others she was “Aunt Sara.”

Nanny was educated in the Accomack County School system and was a graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. Upon graduation, she attended the Philadelphia School of Practical Nursing and completed her course of study on November 22, 1957. Afterwards, she worked in the health care field for many years.

On August 18, 1980, Sara married James Fisher and sometime afterwards they decided to return to her birthplace, Wachapreague, Virginia. Nanny has been back home to her roots for approximately forty years, where she followed in her mother’s footsteps in Grace Church and the community.

Sara diligently went to the Senior Wellness Center in Accomac, where she formed many new friendships with other participants. She also participated in traveling, crafts, games, and whatever was popping, Nanny was in it to win it.

Sara was so stylish, she made sure her outfits had matching scarfs. Whenever there was a challenge, Nanny went for it, she was not going to be out done.

Nanny leaves to mourn her sister, Matilda D. Nedab; nieces, Lucy Nedab-Shedrick (Reamer), Linda J. Mapp, Lafonda Mapp, and Tammy Matthews; nephews, Samuel L. Mapp (Liain, Vernon Mapp, and Wayne Mapp; great-nieces, Krislynn T. Perry, Felicia R. Nedab, Kiera Mapp, and Miracle Mapp; great-nephews, Shawn E. Epps, Sr. (Marsena), Rasaun L. Murphy, Oliver B. Nedab, II, and Magic Mapp; and a host of other relatives and friends.
