Obituary for Sebrina Leigh "Brina" Seymore

Sebrina Leigh Seymore, known affectionately and lovingly as “Brina,” was the beloved daughter of Evelyn Chandler Seymore and the late Melvin Lee Seymore. Sebrina was born on Friday, August 13, 1971, in Nassawadox, Virginia. She was called home on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Sebrina received her education in the Accomack County Public Schools and was a 1990 graduate of Nandua High School. Upon graduation, she furthered her education by attending Blue Ridge Job Corps at Marion, Virginia, where she also graduated as a certified teacher’s aide in 1994. Sebrina’s first job was at Nandua Seafood in Hacks Neck, Virginia in 1985, as a crab meat picker. After she graduated from Blue Ridge Job Corps, Sebrina moved to Portsmouth and became employed as a teacher’s aide and substitute teacher through the Portsmouth Public Schools for the next two years. Sebrina worked as a cashier for OneStop and 7-11, as well as a personal care assistant for Care Advantage, Inc. Within the span of 30 years, Sebrina’s long-term career was as a drive-thru cashier and then as a swing manager for McDonald’s JS&J Restaurant, Inc., especially at the London Boulevard location in Portsmouth.

At an early age, Sebrina became a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Painter, Virginia under the leadership of Reverend Willie A. Carter. She was a current member of Fourth Baptist Church in Portsmouth under the leadership of Pastor Charles W. Beamon. Sebrina was a phenomenal, hardworking, young woman who loved her happy and content life with her family and friends. She was satisfied and humble with her life and she always remained warm, kind, and loving to everyone who she touched and encountered. Sebrina was a protector and she cared for her loved ones by moving mountains for them and giving them a helping hand in their times of need. She also leaned on God during the good and bad times within her life and her faith and trust in Him was both inspiring and never-ending.

It’s Your Girl, Brina
(A Message to My Loved Ones)

It’s your girl, Brina
I know that you are crying for me
I know that you are upset and frustrated at me
I know that you are going to love and miss me deeply
But know that I did not leave you
I will be with you every step of the way
You will not see me, but you will know
That I will always be there with you
I am going to guide you and to love you
Like I always do
Because you will know that
I did not leave you

To my handsome, intelligent, and lovely sons,
M.L. and Quanny Quan
I am going to miss you both
I am going to miss our laughs, jokes, and talks
Asking you two, “What’s wrong?” and
Y’all try to dismiss me like I do not know my own sons
I know that y’all both are smirking on that one
I need you two to stick together and to stay close with one another
You two are all that I have to keep my memories alive and well
I am so very proud of the both of you
And you two have accomplished everything
That I could more than ever asked for
Mom will forever be with and live on through her babies
You two may butt heads and argue with one another
But I know deep down that you two will always love each other
Look out for one another and protect each other
Look out for your Auntie, Grandma, and Booner as well
M.L., stop being so stubborn, and Quan, stop being so headstrong
Be there for one another and take care of each other
My spirit will always be with you both
And your Mom will always love you both as well

Booner, Booner!!
Auntie is going to miss my baby
Auntie is going to love you as well
And help you out when you think that I am not there
Auntie is going to miss our talks and conversations
And I am quite sure that you will too
With all your smart remarks and quick wits too
Auntie will forever be proud of you, Booner
I am going to miss your random and warm hugs
Even if they are phony and you want something from me
I am going to miss my nephew’s love so very much
Look out for your mom, Booner
I know that M.L. and Quan will always be there for you
And help you out with everything that you will need
I love you like another son, and your Auntie is going to be with you always

Momma,
I will always love you
And I thank you for everything
I cherished every moment that I spent with you
Momma, I am going to look out for you too
I want you to be strong like you always are
And I thank you for protecting, loving, and sacrificing for me
Momma, I may have left you, but you should know where I am
I am with Daddy, Tootie, and everyone else
We are living it up, eating crabs and fried chicken like we always do
But we are also guarding you all and watching over you all too
Momma, there are so many words that I wanted to say
And so many things that I wanted to do with you
Know that I did not leave you
And I am going to miss you so very much, Momma
I will always love you

My sister, my twin sister
I am so sorry that it feels like I have left you all alone
We both did not expect this outcome in all our many years together
Lina, I appreciate everything that you have done for me
And everything that we have done together
I love that we were able to do everything together
From birth until now, we were inseparable
Lina, I thank you for being a second mother
To my sons, M.L. and Quan
I know that they will love and protect you like no other
To my nephew, Booner who has your ways like I always tell you
I know that he will love and protect you like no other as well
My sister, my twin sister
I know that this will be the hardest thing that you will ever have to deal with
But always know that your sister, your twin sister
Did not leave you
You are so strong, and I know that you will be stronger
You are so loved, and I know that you will be loved even harder
From the good times to the bad times, I am beyond happy and satisfied
That we have done it all together
I am going to miss my sister, my twin sister
Lina, I will always be there with you
And I will always love you unconditionally
Just like how you will always love me unconditionally too

It’s your girl, Brina
I am going to miss my family so very much
Take care of, protect and be there for one another
I will always be with you all
Every step of the way
Know that I did not leave you all
We will meet up with one another once again
Going back to our usual selves
Laughing, joking, and talking with one another like we always do
Know that I love you all so very much
And I am so grateful for the life that you all have blessed me with too
