Obituary for Shirley Deloirse Edmonds (Vinnie)

Shirley Delorise Vinnie Edmonds, beloved daughter of the late Charles Thomas Vinnie, Sr. and Christine Parker Vinnie, was born on February 20, 1956 in Keller, Virginia. She transitioned from this life on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock, Virginia.

Shirley was reared from an infant by her uncle and aunt, the late John Linwood Parker, Jr. and Gladys Chandler Parker.

Shirley was educated in the public schools of Accomack County. She graduated from the Basic Foods Cooking School in Charleston, West Virginia while she was in Job Corps. Throughout the years, she worked at several restaurants and was employed at McDonald’s for ten years. Shirley was also a compassionate caregiver for all of her family members. She provided great care for her mother, aunt, and all of the children in the family.

Shirley gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Wardtown, Virginia, where she was a member of the Junior Choir. She was united in holy matrimony to the late George Thomas Edmonds, Sr. After her marriage to George, she moved her membership to New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Painter, Virginia. In later years, she and her husband became members of the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement in Temple Hill, Maryland.

Shirley enjoyed reading her Bible and hosting Bible studies. She also loved to cook, attend family gatherings, and watch old classic movies, especially Westerns. The soap operas were another favorite, she could not miss The Young and the Restless or The Bold and the Beautiful. Shirley could also be found cheering and fussing at her favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Atlanta Braves. In her leisure, she enjoyed playing spades and was very competitive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, William Smith, Jr., Theodore Vinnie, James Vinnie, Sr. and Marvin Drummond.

Shirley leaves loving memories to be cherished by her son, Anthony Veney of Haggerstown, MD; four sisters, Barbara Boggs of Lewes, DE, Bessie Vinnie (Larry) Stevens of Melfa, VA, Joyce P. Bailey, and Sandra P. Sheppard, both of Painter, VA; four brothers, Charles (Rosemary) Vinnie, Jr. of Keller, VA, George (Kent) Vinnie, III of Kansas City, MI, Wayne Kellam, and John (Viola) Parker, III, both of Painter, VA; one stepson, Kara Gene Edmonds of Cambridge, MD; three stepdaughters, Virginia Edmonds, Gladys Edmonds, both of Cambridge, MD, and Sandy Thomas of Painter, VA; sister-in-law, Margaret Vinnie; goddaughter, Vanessa B.
