Obituary for Shirley Elizabeth Scott

Shirley Elizabeth Scott transitioned on December 28, 2021, at home surrounded by family and love. She was born on September 22, 1941, in Wattsville, Virginia, to the late Venzie and Mary Catherine (Douglas) Cropper. She was affectionately known as “Lucy” and the “High Sherriff” of the Hill/Ponderosa. Shirley was a warrior; at an early age. She beat Typhoid Fever, which left her in a coma for a week. She attended Mary N. Smith High School until she had her first child, Terry Lewis Cropper, Sr. During her young adulthood, she was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ by her brother, Bishop Wayne Cropper.

Shirley was joined in marriage to Clyde Norman Scott, Sr. She was a loving wife. She and Clyde had one child together, a daughter, Angel Ray Scott. She enjoyed entertaining various family members in her home, in particular her older brother, Cecil Cropper, who would keep her up past her regularly scheduled bedtime of 8 pm. Shirley was an avid TV watcher. Her favorite shows were The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and any Western, especially Gunsmoke.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; son, Terry, Sr.; brothers, Nelson Cropper, Sr., Howard Cropper, and Roland Cropper; and several brothers-in-law, including Will Scott.

She leaves behind her daughter, Angel Ray Scott; grandsons, Pastor Terry Lewis Cropper, Jr. (Aulbrey) and Trent Logan Cropper (Sheena, better known to Mom as “Shanna”); one sister, Florence Brittingham (Edward); four brothers, Cecil Cropper, Bishop Wayne Cropper (Janice), Tony Cropper (Claudia), and Curtis Cropper; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jane Cropper; step-son, Clyde Norman Scott, Jr.; great-grandsons, Cameron Isaiah Cropper, Gabriel Pierce Cropper, Jace Matthew-Lewis Cropper, and Kayson Joel Cropper; great-granddaughter, Chloe Marie Cropper; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
